This new-born hearing screening pilot program will cover major metropolitan areas in Northern Nigeria and be a role model for the implementation of systematic, quality-controlled, universal new-born hearing screening in the entire country. A widespread network of screening centres at the Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital Kaduna, the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna, the Kano Nasarawa Hospital, the Jos University Teaching Hospital and the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital will detect children with hearing impairment and also gather the first valid data on hearing loss in Nigeria. The National Ear Care Centre Kaduna will be in the centre of this national endeavour as site for patient tracking and further diagnostic tests.
