On 13 and 14 February a total of 52 parents took part in the theoretical and practical sessions. Each day’s workshops were opened by distinguished guests: Dr Edwin Liyombo and Dr. Aveline Kahinga respectively. The participants had an opportunity to ask and answer questions. Special attention was given to the parents of children awaiting implantation and the emphasis was made on the importance of rehabilitation. The event received not only very positive feedback from the participants, but also a significant media attention, as the workshop was featured in the most popular print news sources in Tanzania, both in English (Daily News) and Swahili (Afya Na Mazingira).
With its significant impact the launch of the Family Curriculum Workshop in Tanzania greatly contributes to the general awareness raising of many important topics connected to hearing loss, especially of the crucial role of parental involvement in rehabilitation.
